Martin Anthony is one of our new engineers in Mechanical Design. He originally trained as a machine operator and went on to take a degree in engineering before joining – of all places – PJM as his first job before pursuing his career elsewhere. But now he’s back!
In this blog post: Our Mechanical Design team is joined by two new colleagues, both with long experience from the end user perspective: Allan Torp, our new team leader, joins us from Cook Medical, and Martin Anthony returns to PJM after having spent a decade outside the company working at Statoil and Novo Nordisk.
Martin Anthony is one of our new engineers in Mechanical Design. He originally trained as a machine operator and went on to take a degree in engineering before joining – of all places – PJM as his first job before pursuing his career elsewhere. But now he’s back!
“I was with PJM for three years and enjoyed it immensely, but I wanted to try other things as well. So, I worked for one year at Statoil, then nine years at Novo Nordisk, as a mechanical engineer. But I always had a wish to return to PJM, so when they had an opening that suited my profile, I decided to give it a try.”
An open, positive workplace
Martin was attracted both by the professional challenges in the job and by the culture at PJM.
“I like the culture at PJM so much. People are openminded, friendly and helpful; even the CEO is approachable and just walks around chatting to everyone. At PJM, the team spirit is so strong, and we are dedicated to delivering solutions that work as well as possible for as long as possible. I also enjoy being in a smaller organization where you are involved in every aspect of machine design – from first draft to 3D construction all the way to assembly and commissioning. It’s just fun to be part of the whole process instead of just being specialized in one little part of it.”
Martin believes his experience from manufacturing companies is a benefit in the job: “Having worked at Novo Nordisk, I know what a production company really cares about. It’s uptime, production flow, easy maintenance and so on – much of this is not necessarily written down in a contract, but it’s important all the same. I know how our customers think and I can help make our machines fit our customers’ needs even better.”
New team leader in Mechanical Design
Allan Torp is our new team leader in Mechanical Design. He comes to PJM with 17 years of experience from Cook Medical, where he acted as team leader for production support:“My job at Cook was to ensure that the machines we commissioned from suppliers such as PJM and others lived up to our requirements in terms of minimum downtime, production flow and so on.”
Allan Torp has a professional degree in production technology and now heads the Mechanical Design team at PJM – a team consisting of 14 professionals plus external consultants.
“It’s been too long since I’ve done any machine design myself,” he says, “but my task is to lead and to make sure that we use our resources in the department as well as possible. The people we employ here are very skilled and experienced builders, and my role is to ask the right questions so that we can create the best possible solution. I know what our customers focus on, and I know what questions and issues they are likely to raise, and that’s a very valuable experience.”
“PJM is a good place to be, and it’s an exciting time to join the company. We are growing rapidly, but we’re still small enough as an organization that you quickly get to be on a first-name basis with most people. It’s informal, it’s agile, and we are able to act fast,” Allan says.
“Our customers are as busy as we are, so it’s up to all of us to make sure that our resources are used in the best possible way. We want to be able to deliver our solutions on time, so that our customers can keep their production lines running and their output right.”
